When Bill Glose isn’t working on his regular column for Virginia Living he can be found photographing nature landscapes on Virginia’s Peninsula. His honors include the 2001 F. Scott Fitzgerald Short Story Award and the 2004 Virginia Press Association First Place Award for Sports News Writing.

End of the World

If the world were about to end
and I could be with one woman
for that final eve,

I’d spend those hours
with the woman I abandoned
in wild days of my youth,

when everything tasted like Saturday night
and I hadn’t yet learned that
love is more important than lust.

I’d come to her after all these years,
kiss her crows feet and age spots,
bend an ear to her lips,

hoping she’d whisper forgiveness,
so I could close my eyes
and greet forever with a smile.
