Julie is a member of the Winona Clown Club when she is not brooding over poetry journals by candlelight with a glass of wine.

The Sacrifice
Simplify.
Buy out the time.
Create our own space.
Read.
Pray.
Become one with the infinite.
So drones the latest peace guru,
An unattached male, again.
One even sacrificed himself
for those he sought to save.
Puhleease...
Is this something new?
Laundry, dishes, bedtime stories,
shop, recycle, pay the debt, and mow.
I am the taxi, the cook, the nurse.
Come to me all who toil
and I will give you rest.
Yet, my saviour anoints my car with oil.
How can I forsake him?
My cup runneth over,
filled with keen awareness
of who needs new socks,
while meditating on the cash flow.
But as I check 'make love'
off my list of things to do today,
I realize the extent
to which I too have sacrificed
my
inner
peace.
