Tom Hamon has a chapbook on river poems he’s put together (but hasn’t mailed out) entitled River Poems. He works as an advocate for persons with disabilities and lives in Albany, New York, near the Hudson River where his poems have their roots.

Before Fly Fishing

We watched meteors
shower the sky
and tugs
work the river.

From sleeping bags
we traded dreams:

his of just seconds before –
sailing a ship to Mars
rocketing around falling stars;

mine of more than 40 years –
piloting barges
past pilings to safe harbor.

Encamped on the riverbank
my son and I
swapped soul longings
as different as heaven and sea
but also the same,
while sharing the wait for morning.
