Giaco Furino is a poet living and working in Philadelphia. He is a recent graduate from the University of the Arts, and plans, for the moment, to stay put. He writes poetry because he just has to, you know?"

Smite

Sure I thought smite was a tough word, a little too strong, a little too hot,
a little too biblical, but that didn't keep me from wrapping my brain around it.
That didn't keep me from playing Zeus on a colony of ants. O Sandal Foot Smite!

Sure I thought smite was a sour word, a little too tart, a little too loaded,
a little too conscious of itself, but that didn't stop me from sending tornados down
on your tiny little heads. There was never an answer, there were only hurt ankles.

If I am a god then there is no god; if there is no god then there is
no smite. Which is a bit of a tough word, a little too strong, a
little too hot anyway.
