Peace Be to the Morning

with thanks to Joyce Odam

peace be to the morning
thread of light
winding
the gray
pad of cat paws
returned
from dark’s sly-foot hours

peace be to the morning
household still
tea steam fragrant

birds have sung dawn
since deep of night
my freshened body
sinks back in the chair

the sun slides
over the stream, the land
peace be to the day
